The Oldest Brick Building in Tokyo

Inside Tokyo University of Arts, there is the oldest brick building in Tokyo.

 

The President of the Tokyo University of Arts, kindly arranged for magazine interview with Akimoto at this historical site.

 

The interview for the magazine “President” features friendship between president (Akimoto) and celebrities.

When asked what Akimoto likes about Mr Miyata’s famous dolphin metal carvings;

“I just like it (いいね)”

and added,

“I somehow like it (なんとなく、いいね)”

then explained what is ordinary,

and what is extraordinary.

Mr Miyata was pleased.

Artists and Daiku carpenters have a lot of things in common.

1. Must present yourself as a salesperson

2. Must train  apprentices

3. Three steps of learning:

守 obey tradition

破 break tradition

離 create original
